What we run

Four programs, one kitchen.

Everything happens out of the same building, which keeps the overhead at 11% and the food hot.

Why we exist

The gap between a bad month and a missed meal.

Open Hands started with a pot of soup in a church basement, made for twelve people. Last year we served 61,000 meals. The reason isn't that Surrey has more hungry people than anywhere else; it's that rent, groceries and childcare have outrun wages, and a single unexpected bill can empty a fridge.

We don't ask why someone is here. We ask whether they want the vegetarian option.
