How to View Archived Emails in Gmail
Gmail has no Archive folder — which is why archived mail feels lost. It is in All Mail, and there is a search that shows only the archived part.

- 1There is no Archive folder. Archiving removes the Inbox label from a message and changes nothing else — the message keeps every other label it had.
- 2In the left sidebar, click More, then All Mail. That view holds everything in your account: inbox, archived and sent.
- 3To see only the archived messages, search in:archive. This is a documented Gmail search operator and it excludes what is still in your inbox.
- 4On Android and iOS, tap the menu icon at the top left and choose All Mail — the mobile apps have no separate archive view either.

Does Gmail have an archive folder?
No. Archiving removes the Inbox label from a message; it does not move it anywhere. The message stays in All Mail with whatever other labels it already had, which is why there is nothing called Archive in the sidebar.
How do I see only my archived emails?
Search in:archive. All Mail shows archived messages but also shows your inbox and sent mail; in:archive narrows it to the archived ones.
How do I unarchive an email in Gmail?
Find it in All Mail or via in:archive, tick it, and click Move to Inbox. That reapplies the Inbox label. A message also returns to your inbox by itself when someone replies to the thread.
Is archiving the same as deleting?
No. Deleting puts a message in Trash, where Gmail permanently removes it after 30 days. Archiving keeps the message indefinitely and only takes it out of the inbox view.
Do archived emails still count against my storage?
Yes. Archived mail is still in your account, so it uses the same Google storage your inbox does. Only deleting and then emptying Trash frees space.
